Diecast 1/72

Firefly by Gary Archer
Manufacturer: Dragon Armor

I have had the opportunity to pick up two of Dragon's new Sherman Firefly models recently, both the limited edition and the general release version. Both models are spectacular reproductions of the potent British tank killer armed with the legendary 17 Pounder gun. The detail is crisp and clear, without being overdone with heavy weathering or overdone stowage. The nice fact with the limited edition Firefly (13/18 Hussars) is the extra stowage basket on the back of the turret bustle. Often overlooked this is a nice touch.

Unfortunatly what started out as a highly promising line of models has been spoiled by Dragon's insistence in releasing not just one, but TWO captured examples. In view of how many British, Canadian and other Commonwealth units used the Firefly it seems utterly futile and ridiculous to have done these. In light of how many were actually captured and used, I feel Dragon has made a poor choice in the marketing department. Hopefully they will in time release some of the more mainstream units that used this vehicle in the NW European theatre of operations.
